Answer the following questions on a separate piece of paper.  Please write in complete sentences, skip lines, and number your answers.

1.     What do you expect from this class?
2.     What do you expect from me, the instructor, in this class?
3.     What can I, the instructor, expect from you in this class?
4.     What are you most interested in studying here at NEIU?

5.     What is the last thing you read, in other words, the thing you read most recently?


This "in class" assignment was handed in at the end of the period.

Discussion of the syllabus.

Handout from the text, Bridging the Gap:  pages 21-26     Students were divided into groups and told to work together to find the answers to the questions.  They were supposed to exchange information.

Handout from Scientific American:  "A Learning Secret: Don't Take Notes with a Laptop" -- students are to write an outline of this article

Complete the text assignment and the outline assignment, above
