Confusing pair of English sentences:
Time flies like an arrow. ("Flies" is the verb. "Like" is a sort of preposition.)
Fruit flies like bananas. ("Flies" is thee subject. "Like" is the verb.)
If you are having trouble with a sentence in something you have to read, try to find the subject and the main verb, first, and then figure out the rest of the sentence.
